2009 H1N1 (swine flu)
H1N1 flu (referred to as "swine flu" early on) is a new influenza virus causing illness in people. This new virus was first detected in people in April 2009 in the United States. As of 14 February 2010, worldwide more than 212 countries and overseas territories or communities have reported laboratory confirmed cases of pandemic influenza H1N1 2009.

This virus is spreading from person-to-person, in much the same way that regular seasonal influenza viruses spread.
Flu viruses are spread mainly from person to person through coughing or sneezing by people with influenza. Sometimes people may become infected by touching surfaces contaminated with flu viruses and then touching their mouth or nose.
